School History

Star has a rich history in education dating back to a grammar school in 1908 named Star Academy located behind the current NAPA store. In 1925 the county consolidated high schools and built a new school located on the same site as our current elementary school. The circle drive currently used for buses at Star Elementary was the original circle drive laid out for the consolidated high school in 1925.
Star High School was open until East Montgomery opened in 1961 and the existing site became Star Middle and Elementary School until 1982. The original school was demolished in 1982 to make way for our current elementary school. The school was designed by the school’s teachers with each classroom designed with a restroom and the media center being the hub of the school. To pay tribute to Star High school the old rail road clock which once hung in the high school, gifted by the class of 1929, was installed in the office of Star Elementary.
